Alachua
Alachua is a nexus of all the past, present, and future in Florida.
With San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park, Mill Creek Nature Preserve, Turkey Creek Preserve, and Santa Fe River Preserve, natural resources here are abundant and integral to the community’s recreational identity.
Visit those fantastic destinations as well as the many world-renowned freshwater springs along the Santa Fe and Suwannee Rivers while exploring rural North Central Florida using Alachua as a base – home to the only business-class hotels in Alachua County outside of Gainesville.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Downtown Alachua is lined with quaint shops and restaurants housed in buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Stroll along Main Street and learn about the history of the people who have called the Alachua area home, from the primary native Timucuan settlement at the time of European contact to the ghost town of Newnansville, the first American community in Florida settled at the behest of Americans.
Not far from Main Street are the Hal Brady Recreation Complex and the Legacy Park Recreation Complex, with splash and skate parks, playgrounds, ball fields, event centers and an outdoor amphitheater for music and festivals.
Several technology businesses make up the Progress District, one of the largest biotechnology and life science clusters in the state. Nearby is the new and innovative San Felasco Tech City, a live-work-play development rapidly expanding and already home to one of Alachua County’s seven local breweries and a wine bar.
Slightly further to the east along US Highway 441 is Turkey Creek Golf Course, one of only two public golf courses in the county.
Whether you’re looking to escape into the beauty of nature throughout North Central Florida, explore its deep and rich history, or enjoy the amenities offered only by a growing urban community, there’s something for everyone in Alachua, Florida.
