Hobe Sound
Hobe Sound, situated between Stuart and Jupiter, is a Southeast Florida destination offering all of the charm of a small beach town along with championship golf courses, rugged parks, and one-of-a-kind nature preserves to explore.
Named for the geysers of seawater that reach heights of up to 50 feet from its craggy limestone shore, Blowing Rocks Preserve is one of the area’s most iconic and unique places to visit and home to a number of endangered plant and animal species. Hobe Sound Beach, one of the many hidden gems of the area, is another family favorite, boasting a picturesque, uncrowded shoreline and a guarded swimming area to enjoy the turquoise waters of the Atlantic.
Nathaniel P. Reed Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge has the largest contiguous stretch of undeveloped shoreline in Southeast Florida and is one of the most important sea turtle nesting areas in the country. While at the refuge, families of all ages will want to make a stop at Hobe Sound Nature Center, where visitors can see live animal exhibits and participate in guided sea turtle walks.
Just south of the wildlife refuge, Jonathan Dickinson State Park invites visitors to experience south Florida nature and explore its history, offering trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, opportunities for fishing, paddling, glamping, and camping, and boat tours aboard the Loxahatchee Queen, during which passengers can see the historic camp of Trapper Nelson, the famed “Wildman of the Loxahatchee.” In addition, the park offers seasonal guided horseback riding tours and horse-drawn wagon rides.
Golfers will enjoy spending time at the prestigious Lost Lake Golf Club and Heritage Ridge Golf Club. Visitors can get some retail therapy while hunting for treasures at the community’s antique stores, boutiques, and beach shops, and fuel up at Hobe Sound’s fun and funky eateries, which offer everything from fresh seafood and live entertainment to picnic-worthy sandwiches and salads to go.
