This dark sand is from Caspersen Beach, just south of the Venice Fishing Pier in southwest Florida. The dark grains are fossilized material--bits of ancient sharks teeth, turtle shells, prehistoric horse teeth and much more. With a little patience, you'll find a whole shark's tooth, a chunk of fossilized sea turtle shell, or a whole horse's tooth!
