Help Preserve Florida's Beaches
Beach cleanups keep trash off our beaches – trash that is not only unsightly, but poses a danger to animal life. Beach cleanup days happen regularly all over Florida, and anyone can participate.

Sealife Cruises
Dolphins are very curious and seem to enjoy being around humans. A mother and her three baby dolphins swam near the boat—close enough for a few photos.

20 Ways to Hang with Dolphins
Participants collaborate with one of its 19 dolphin – many of them descendants of the 1963 Flipper movie cast – to create a colorfully abstract T-shirt that the dolphin decorates with water-based paints.

There's No Place Like Home
It has always been a dream of mine to swim with dolphins, so we packed up and headed south to the Miami Seaquarium, which offers dolphin swim programs at its newly renovated, $5-million Dolphin Harbor.

Real Florida Natives
Sailing along in the Gulf, you’re apt to spot the gray Atlantic bottlenose dolphins (Flipper was a bottlenose) as they frolic alongside. You can frolic with them yourself at numerous spots around the state, both in the wild and at aquariums and research centers.

Florida's Smaller Marine Attractions
With a microscopic admission, you'll have plenty of spending money to rent a surrey for a family bike ride, grab a bite at one of the Pier's many restaurants or take something home from one of its souvenir shops.

Kayaking 101
A young camp worker drives us upstream to our launch point, unloads our boats, gives us some landmarks and wishes us fun. We want nothing more.

Springs Eternal
During dusk, the landscape is shrouded in mystery. What you no longer see clearly, you hear: the shrieks of great horned owlets calling for food, the splashes of jumping mullet, the bellowing of alligators echoing across the water.

Natural Beaches
If you count all bays and inlets - where you'll find the "secret" sandy getaways usually known only to locals - Florida has nearly 8,500 miles of shoreline.

Florida's Retro Theme Parks
Many of the rides are highly embellished versions of rides you might see at the state fair - scrambler, Ferris wheel, Tilt-O-Whirl, bumper cars.

Blast Off or Come Down to Earth at Cocoa Beach
The "World's Most Diverse Estuary," the Indian River Lagoon snakes along The Space Coast, comprised of the Indian and Banana Rivers and Mosquito Lagoon. There's not a beach in sight, but you won't miss it a bit.

Park It!
Heading back, we were not alone. To our right, two gray snouts emerged from the water, so close we could see black nostrils and pink tongues. These manatees were actually smiling at us, alternately revealing heads and huge, fan-shaped tails.

Turtle Watch
All Florida beaches are potential nesting sites, but the greatest concentration of loggerhead nesting turtles lies on the east coast between the Canaveral National Seashore (Titusville) and Fort Lauderdale.

Scalloping in Steinhatchee
The town is a delicious time warp where century-old fishing camps languish beneath mossy oaks, and weathered docks rock gently in the wake of fishing boats.

Canaveral is also one of only two spots in Florida where the reddish egret is known to breed. Another rare species, the endangered wood stork, comes to feed when the fry, or tiny minnows, first hatch.

Just about everyone will catch their limit of snapper and grouper, and the pleasant thought of a savory fish sandwich back home makes the long ride back a little easier to handle.
