The Boys of Summer: The Good Life
June 22, 2008

You got that hair slicked back and those Wayfarers on, baby
I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

-Don Henley

My Boys of Summer wish it would never end!

My family is in absolute heaven during baseball season and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays are sure having a great run.

But, hey, how ‘bout them Cubs?

The boys enjoyed a great night at Tropicana Field watching the Rays play the Cubs (my husband’s hometown team). I apologize to the “real Floridians.” I am outnumbered and surrounded by three very serious Cubs fans.

And, even though the Rays won, my guys were smiling because Brandon caught his first MLB baseball. I must add that he actually slept with it.

Tropicana Field is the world's only professional sports facility that features live cownose rays. The Rays Tank, presented by VisitStPeteClearwater.com, opened in 2006, and is located just behind the right center field wall. Through a unique partnership with the Florida Aquarium, there are over 30 rays that fans can touch and feed throughout the game. The 10,000-gallon tank is one of the ten largest in the United States. If a player hits a home run into the tank, then the organization will donate $5,000 to charity--$2,500 to the Florida Aquarium and $2,500 to the player's charity of choice.

We have been enjoying our lazy days. The boys have taken up fishing and golfing. I have taken up driving them to the driving range. I was happy that the Tampa Bay Downs Driving Range had some shade and chairs for dear old mom to watch as they hit hundreds of balls. It's a great way to pass the time! (Note to self: Next time, bring a book.)

The boys even went tubing at our end-of-season baseball trophy party at our friend Joey’s house. (Thanks again, Coach!)

Florida living is good living. Pictures are worth 1,000 words, so I’ll leave you with some images of how we started our summer.

I hope you’ll come to Florida and see what we get to experience all year – the Good Life.

Jennifer
