Commander's Palace Comes to Destin
August 26, 2008
Commander's  Palace...This quintessential New Orleans landmark restaurant took quite a beating in Katrina, but the owners knew they would rebuild better than ever. They did that and one better for people in Northwest Florida – they opened an outpost in Destin, Florida this past summer.

Commander's Palace and its On The Rocks bar is in Destin's Emerald Grande Resort. The bar serves what it calls "serious cocktails," and the dining space is definitely a room with a view – wide windows overlook the Gulf.

The food brings New Orleans flair – "Modern Creole," they call i – and mixes in some "Floribbean" cooking--Florida's Southern food flavors with its Caribbean influences. Chef Danny Trace is a native of New Orleans and a veteran Commander's Palace chef and directs the dining room with all the skill you'd expect of Commander's Palace.

Harborwalk Village, where Emerald Grande and Commander's Palace is located, is a new shopping and entertainment venue. Come early to shop, stay late for the entertainment with live music on Saturdays' Rock the Dock nights. Other events include art shows, fireworks and more (check out Harborwalk's website for its event calendar).
