The Great Chowder Cook-off, this year in its 28th celebration, has crowned a Florida favorite, a Cedar Key spot, champion chowder after more than 10,000 attendees voted Tony's Seafood Restaurant's Clam Chowder the blue ribbon winner.
Tony's was invited to compete and served up, according to estimates by chef/owner Eric Jungklaus, somewhere in the neighborhood of 20,000 two-ounce samples. His chowder features Gulf Coast farm-raised clams, butter, bacon, potatoes and some secret spices. (According to the restaurant's website, a Bon Appetit recipe request was denied. Some things just need to be kept secret, right?)
So if you're anywhere near Cedar Key, Tony's Seafood Restaurant is a must. Have the chowder and enjoy super fresh seafood. And if you cannot wait until the next time you're in the area? Tony's will Fedex your clam chowder fix (ordering information on the website).
