Offshore racing action heats up again next month when Super Boat International holds its world championships in Key West, which has been called the performance boating capital of the world.
This event, scheduled for Nov. 8-15, consistently draws record crowds. The big boats roar within feet of the wharf and downtown hotels, making Key West the most fan-friendly venue in the United States. Competitors from all over the world are expected to attend, including the international duo comprised of Swedish driver Michael Silfverberg and veteran Anglo-American Nigel Hook in their Lucas Oil vee-bottom.
The pair have been tearing up the international race circuit and are now hoping to add another title to their racing resumes when SBI holds its 29th consecutive World Championship in the Southernmost City. Key West is infamous for its challenging racing conditions. The course is located where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Atlantic Ocean so fans have grown accustomed to seeing powerboats literally fly through the air.
The weeklong event kicks off with a boat parade and registration on Nov. 8-9. Testing and official practice will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 10, before the first race on Wednesday, Nov. 11 and the finals on Sunday, Nov. 15. For more information, click here.
