Loggerhead Turtle: Florida's Official Saltwater Reptile
July 02, 2008
As of July 1, 2008, the loggerhead sea turtle has been named the official saltwater reptile of Florida, and now serves as a symbol of Florida, like the 21 other official state symbols, including the alligator and the manatee.

The significance of this is to draw attention to the loggerheads and to create exposure that will likely result in a greater awareness of the turtle's importance to Florida.

Read more about the purpose of the loggerhead being named Florida's official saltwater reptile
