Four Things to Do on the Fourth of July
June 11, 2009
Here are four things to do on the Fourth of July:

  1. On July 4th, if you wear an American flag pin, patch, shirt, hat or anything to Billie Swamp Safari,  you get 50 percent off the regular ticket price of an Airboat Ride, a Swamp Buggy Eco-Tour, a Snake & Alligator Show or Swamp Critter Show. This is a great way to see a piece of the Florida Everglades. Billie Swamp Safari is on the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation located halfway between Fort Lauderdale and Naples off Interstate 75.
  2. From July 3-5, Jacksonville has "Freedom,Fanfare and Fireworks" downtown with activities, concerts and events. On July 4, there is a freedom ride for motorcycles, a boat-decorating contest and the famous fireworks, downtown on the riverfront at 9:45 p.m. Fireworks can be viewed from the Northbank and the Southbank of the St. Johns River.
  3. On July 4th is the annual Clamerica Celebration in Cedar Key from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with plenty to do for the whole family including clam hunts, games and contests. Fireworks in the evening after dusk, weather permitting.
  4.  Come spend the day, July 4, in St. Augustine then when dusk falls, at 9:30 p.m. see a huge fireworks display, a 20-minute show bursting above the Castillo de San Marcos and reflected in the waters of Matanzas Bay. Best viewing is along the bayfront between the Castillo and the Bridge of Lions.
