The granddaddy of all Florida folk festivals happens this weekend - the 57th Florida Folk Festival takes place May 22, 23 and 24 at the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs, just off U.S. 41.
I have friends who plan their yearly vacation around this festival, and they've been attending the festival for the past 25 years. That is devotion! It is easy to see why this festival gets their attention. This is a three-day celebration of everything that makes Florida unique (and I might add authentic).
Music, dance, cultural heritage of all kinds are reflected in more than 300 performances over the three days. You can go to jam sessions, demonstrations and workshops. An extra added attraction - Nashville recording artist Billy Dean takes the main stage Saturday night.
This year's them is Florida's Nature Coast, perfect as the Suwannee River runs right along the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park. Enjoy. |
