The Friends of Mission San Luis invite the public to a free celebration of 17th century food traditions during Thanksgiving weekend. All cultures are grateful for a good harvest, and the Apalachee and Spanish residents of Mission San Luis were no exception. "Giving Thanks" will be held at Mission San Luis on Friday, November 27 and Saturday, November 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can observe costumed interpreters smoking meat and fish on the barbacoa, and demonstrating the use of native and European plants from their gardens and fields. The Mission’s unique culinary history comes to life with preparations for the feast. There will be hands-on food tasks for children. (Although the traditional foods cannot be sampled, snacks will be provided by local businesses.) Read Less
