In the 1960s, Andy Warhol (1928-1987), Tom Wesselmann (1931- 2004), Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997), James Rosenquist (1933- ) and Robert Indiana (1928- ) gained international attention as key leaders of the Pop art movement, which championed the use of popular culture and mass-produced objects as artistic subject matter. On exhibition July 2 - September 7, 2008 Today, our view of what constitutes an artwork is much different from what we understood visual art to be at any other time in history. Increasingly, artists are moving beyond the predictable. Temporary installations, conceptual works, computer-generated images, and video often determine the non-traditional form and content of much contemporary artwork today. The Museum is committed to showing the best contemporary as well as modernist 20th and 21st century art. Part of that commitment is reflected in the Museum's strong advocacy for the Florida artist. As the state's oldest annual juried competition, over the years, the Museum's All Florida has introduced the work of thousands of Florida artists working in all media - emerging, under recognized, and established younger and mid-career artists. The 57th All Florida Juried Exhibition reinforces the Museum's commitment to Florida artists, provides professional exhibition opportunities for emerging artists, and reveals a provocative glimpse - through Florida artists' eyes - of the state-of-the-art today.
