6 B&Bs THAT’LL WOO YOU
Hollywood By the Sea Hollywood
Who says you can’t combine a B&B getaway with a beachside vacation? This stately inn reminiscent of the 1930s and ‘40s sits just a stone’s throw from sugary Hollywood Beach. The eight upscale rooms mix wood floors, high ceilings and funky, yet stylish, furnishings. Out back, relax by the heated pool.
You’ll fall for: Ocean views from select rooms.
Coombs House Inn Apalachicola
The daffodil-hued Main House (circa 1911) and matching East House (circa 1910) just a few doors down the street signal that this is going to be a genteel stay. A bevy of leaded glass windows and fire replaces accent the architecture, though the period furniture will vie for your attention. Talk to a member of the friendly staff or take a seat in the parlor to page through the book chronicling the renovation of this place, and you’ll appreciate the experience even more.
You’ll fall for: The “they don’t make ’em like this anymore” staircase in the main house.
Harrington House Anna Maria Island
How can you not love a place that serves buttermilk pancake sundaes for breakfast? Of course, you’ll fall for more than sweet beginnings at the Harrington House. At this collection of four homes on Anna Maria Island off of Florida’s Southwest coast, you’ll adore the array of rooms and suites, tropical gardens and direct access to Gulf beaches (not to mention the beachy-chic and quaint surroundings on Anna Maria Island).
You’ll fall for: Rooms with a view – ask for a balcony to witness breathtaking Gulf sunsets.

Cedar House Inn St. Augustine
As America’s oldest continuously settled European city, St. Augustine boasts plenty of charming B&Bs, including this 1893 Victorian in the heart of the historic district. Seven guest rooms and suites are decked with handsome antiques and Floridian styling; some have whirlpool tubs and private balconies overlooking the neatly tended grounds.
You’ll fall for: The baby grand piano in the parlor.
Inn at the Bay St. Petersburg
A favorite roost of honeymooners, this sumptuously furnished 1910 mansion sits just a couple of blocks from Tampa Bay, and an easy walk to downtown St. Petersburg’s wealth of restaurants and galleries. Most of the smartly decorated rooms contain double whirlpool tubs, and some feature canopied four-poster beds.
You’ll fall for: The lavish breakfasts (perhaps praline-stuffed French toast or apple-and-cheddar quiche).
Sweetwater Branch Inn Gainesville
It’s a Victoriana-lover’s nirvana: turrets sweep the eyes skyward, a gazebo extends a coy invitation and a veranda wraps guests right up. All this happens at the McKenzie House, an 1895 Queen Anne (the inn also includes a second multi-room guest house, cottages and a carriage house). The complex fits right into the surrounding historic district, which offers museums, dining and a theater.
You’ll fall for: The oh-so-cozy honeymoon cottage complete with a fireplace and whirlpool tub.
